Peter was born to Pieter and Gertje on Aug. 29, 1883. He married Helena De Jonge on March 7, 1907. He farmed the land immediately south of Pigeon Creek on 104th Street, between Polk and Ransom Streets, northwest of Borculo. He and his sons also collected milk from other farmers and brought the milk to Mead Johnson in Zeeland. Later he moved to a farm on the east side of 96th Avenue, just south of the Bill-Mar Turkey Farm. At that time Bill and Marve DeWitt were just experimenting with raising turkeys. Peter during that time also served as Ottawa County Road Commissioner. His last years he worked as janitor of the Lincoln School in Zeeland, and he lived two houses east of the school with his second wife, Agnes. Peter and Helena had nine children.
Helena is the daughter of Willem DeJonge 3/18/1839-8/19/1904 and Margje Staal 8/16/1848-2/13/1912, and married Peter P. Vanden Bosch.

This picture brings tears to my eyes. I received it from Dr. Michelle VandenBosch Ferguson today, November 30, 2014. Michelle is the daughter of Dr. Jay VandenBosch, and it is a picture in a paperweight of his mother, Helena, who died when Jay was young.
This picture of Peter and Helena VandenBosch was taken in 1937. The baby must be their first grandchild, Mary of Marvin who was born 9/4/36. Since the picture was taken in the summer of 1937, this is most likely the last picture of Grandmother VandenBosch before her demise on 9/4/37.

Tamme VandenBosch 1798-1874
One of five farmhouses in Witten which were already in existence in 1848. Remodeled in 1972, picture taken in 1997.
In 1848, the Tamme VandenBosch family left the little village of Witten, near Assen, in the province of Drenthe, traveled to Ammerzoden in the Province of Gelderlandin the Netherlands, and boarded a river boat to Amsterdam. There they boarded the ship Scandia, debarked at New York on May 29, and settled in Zeeland, Michigan. His wife was Grietje Koenen Bont 1801-1865. The ship's manifest records that Tamme was a farmer in the Netherlands. Tamme is buried in a private plot near Roosevelt St. in Zeeland. Their children are as follows:
